Diwali

Diwali is one of the Hindu festivals. I like it very much. It takes place generally on the 15th of Kartik or in the first week of November. On this day Lord Ramchandra is said to have returned to Ayodhya with Laxmana and Sita after an exile of fourteen years.

People clean and white-wash their houses before Diwali. On Diwali day, they decorate their shops and houses. They wear new clothes and go to the market to buy such thing as candles, toys, crackers and sweets.

People worship Laxmi, the goddess of wealth. They illuminate their houses and shops with clay lamps, candles or electric bulbs. People send sweets to their relatives and friends. Children burn fireworks also. Everybody is happy and gay.
