Our Festivals

There is an abundance of festivals. Religion or national festivals are not limited to families and schools and college. They are seen on a larger scale on streets of common grounds. On Diwali every building is illuminated. Specially ,temples are beautifully decorated. Children fire crackers and other fireworks. There is a lot of selling and buying of sweetmeats.
On Holi everywhere the people are seen sprinkling coloured water on one another, embracing one another and singing and dancing. Special music and dance function are held and the people visit friends and relatives.
On Dashera open Ramlila shows are held on common grounds when big effigies of Ravana, Meghnada and Kumbhakarna are burnt.
On Christmas churches are decorated, special prayers are held and friends are entertained. 
Eid and Muharram are Muslim festivals. On Eid they are seen in streams going to offer  prayers. Then they embrace friends and entertain them.
On Muharram  big 'Tazias' are taken out in procession, but there are no festivities. Muharram is observed to remember the martyrdom of Imam Hussain.
Independence Day and Republic Day are our national festivals. India became free on August 15, 1947 and became a republic on January 26 every year Independence Day is celebrated. National flags are hoisted on public building and police and N. C. C. parades are held. On January 26 every year Republic Day is celebrated. There is a very big parade on that day in Delhi and smaller parades everywhere.
Fairs are held on all festivals where the people gather to enjoy the fun and boy buying and selling things. They wear fine clothes to go to fairs.
